Army Tuition Assistance

The Army Tuition Assistance program (TA) is open to nearly all active-duty soldiers including those in the Army Reserve and the Army National Guard.  For details about restrictions about eligibility and use, please download the Army Continuing Education System Regulations.

Army TA will cover 100 percent of tution up to the maximum amount of:

  • $166 per quarter hour
  • $4,000 per fiscal year
  • 24 quarter hours per fiscal year

  • Soldiers will be eligible for Army Tuition Assistance (TA) upon successfully completing one year of military service following graduation from AIT (Advanced Individual Training).
  • Soldiers can use TA for a second, higher-level degree (post bachelor’s) once they have ten years of service, if any portion of the undergraduate degree was funded with TA.  There is no ten year requirement if TA did not fund any portion of your undergraduate work.
  • Current Army policy limits TA to 195 quarter hours of undergraduate credit or baccalaureate degree, whichever comes first and 59 quarter hours of graduate credit or master’s degree whichever comes first. The 59 quarter hour limit applies to all credits taken after completion of a baccalaureate degree.
  • Soldiers may complete one degree at the associate level, bachelor’s and at the master’s level.

Fremont College offers a number of online courses that allow soldiers the opportunity to earn a certificate or degree from anywhere in the world, as long as you have an internet connection. Our programs can be completed in as little as 7 months and start dates happen every 5 weeks! Instructors are available all year round to help with any questions you might have. In addition to a great staff of instructors, each student is provided with up to 5 mentors to ensure you are successful during and after your studies at Fremont College.

Applying for TA Through GoArmyEd:

  1. Request TA through GoArmyEd prior to the course start date or the school’s late registration period.
  2. You must request TA for each course you take.
  3. You will receive notification from GoArmyEd when your request for TA has been approved or denied.  If your request is denied, GoArmyEd will advise you of the next step you should take.
  4. All dropped courses or withdrawals must take place through GoArmyEd.  If you do not earn a “C” grade or higher, you will be required to repay your TA. If you are unable to complete a course due to your military duties, you must ensure that you withdraw from the course through GoArmyEd so that you will not be charged.
  5. You must submit a new, signed TA Statement of Understanding (SOU) each year (SFC rank and above may sign the SOU for themselves and the commander). Your TA request will not be authorized until the TA SOU is approved.  You will receive a notice from GoArmyEd 90 days before the due date.
