Tuition Assistance

The Coast Guard Tuition Assistance (TA) is a great way to further your education when on active duty. Tuition and fees can’t exceed

  • $250 per semester credit hour, or
  • $166 per quarter credit hour, and
  • $2,250 maximum per fiscal year

As a member of the Coast Guard you have a number of benefits available to you.  In addition to the Tuition Assistance from the military, Fremont College also offers discounted rates, free tutoring, and 5 mentors to help you.

  • TA benefits provide you with up to $2,250 of financial assistance each fiscal year for qualified programs.
  • Fremont College waives our $25/Application fee for military students.
  • Fremont College waives our $50/Transcript Evaluation fee for military students.

Fremont College offers a number of online courses that allow military service members the opportunity to earn a certificate or degree from anywhere in the world, as long as you have an internet connection. Our programs can be completed in as little as 7 months and start dates happen every 5 weeks! Instructors are available all year round to help with any questions you might have. In addition to a great staff of instructors, each student is provided with up to 5 mentors to ensure you are successful during and after your studies at Fremont College.

Coast Guard TA Annual Cap
•TA has an annual maximum or “cap” of $2,250
•The annual cap falls within each fiscal year (1 October to 30 September).
•Once the member uses the maximum allotted amount per year, no waivers will be granted for additional money.
•The established TA cap does not mean the Coast Guard guarantees to pay the full amount. Budget constraints may require further TA policy changes.

TA Caps
•TA is available for undergraduate & graduate courses up to Master’s Degrees. The caps are:
◦$250 per semester hour, $166.66 per quarter hour, or $16.67 per clock hour.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Coast Guard members must be on active duty or a Reservist on long-term orders greater than 180 days. Officers may incur an additional service commitment after completion of an authorized course.
  • WebTA application must be submitted no later than 14 days prior to the course start date.
  • CGTA is available for undergraduate and graduate degree programs and will not cover student fees.
  • Establishment of lifetime credit hour limits are calculated on all CGTA utilized since program inception and are as follows:
    • 130 semester hours for undergraduate work
    • 40 semester hours for graduate work
    • Course start date determines the fiscal year funding to be used
    • Enlisted members must complete all courses authorized by CGTA prior to discharge, retirement, or RELAD.
